Look up phone numbers and addresses for state/local headquarters of Republican, Democratic, Libertarian, Tea Party, etc. Make sure you know who all of the candidates are and their party affiliations. Find out who the Campaign Managers are. Make up a balloon portfolio specifically oriented to elections: flags, banners, balloon drops, political icons, red, white and blue whatever. Make up 2-3 Package Deals. Why not go after all of the political party business between now and November instead of just one political event? The big issue is going to be money. Be prepared to give your new clients a good discount if they take one of your package deals.... TODAY ONLY.... no package deal two weeks from now, OK? Stand firm.   Go to each party headquarters and talk to the campaign managers. If you can't talk to the campaign manager, make sure you talk to someone who is a decision maker. Don't waste time with one of the nice volunteers; if you want to sell you have to talk to someone who has the power to buy. Be sure to have an extra copy of your graphics, prices and package deals for the campaign manager. It's up to you, but if can get an appropriate political button to wear, do it. Just be sure you are wearing the right one at the right headquarters! Take some balloons with you to the political headquarters. Try to take something different so that they will think whatever is very cool, and so they will remember YOU and your company- use your teaser balloons to MAKE them want your balloons. Be sure your details are on the complimentary display because the truth is, they probably will NOT remember who brought the balloons nor the name of your company.   Get a contract and get paid:.

  RMS, USA flag made with strings of # 260 balloon bubbles. Say to yourself,"I am not leaving here without a contract". Note: It would be even better to leave with a contract AND a deposit. Put in your contract that you expect a non-refundable deposit of 50% on this or that date, prior to the event. We always get the balance BEFORE we install because things get so hectic just prior to an event. Call before the event to see if you can up sell the job. Remember that political campaign finances change from day to day. Just because your client made a modest order doesn't mean that more money hasn't come in since the order was made. Up sell! We always try to up sell at the event too. When we arrive at the venue, and are getting our check, we make suggestions that this or that would be nice, here or there. If there is an addition to the order, be sure to get it in writing. You always take an extra contract form with you, right? This payment is likely to be delayed, but having to go back to the campaign headquarters is another way to sell again - another contac. Again... remember... campaign money is in constant flux. Go after it in the same way - constantly! Conversely, campaign money in constant flux can mean that the campaign may be short of funds at the time of the event. Protect yourself. Get a non-refundable deposit (You can still offer to provide balloons for the same event on another day.) and state in your contract that you expect to be paid on site before installation.

  Follow up:.   . Be sure to follow up with your client after the event(s). If there is a photo in the newspaper with your balloons in it, send a copy with your note to the campaign manager. If this person is the campaign manager in 2010, it sems likely that this person will be involved in future campaigns. Try to stay in touch. Include them on your newsletter data base.     GO SELL!
